Brian Tracy

In this day and age, I feel one of the greatest downfalls in our society is not taking  personal responsibility for our lives. I just watched a great video at iLearning Global by Brian Tracy titled “Take Charge of Your Life”. In this video he shared about his own life experiences and how much his own life changed when he realized the importance of taking responsibility for his actions.

Several things need to happen: 1) No more critizing others 2) No more complaining and 3) No blaming of other people for whatever mess you might be in.

Resolve that you are taking full responsibility for your life today. You can always choose how your going to react to any given circumstance.

He suggests 4 steps to follow to implement personal responsibility:

1) See yourself as self-employed, no matter what job you hold. Be your own President of Personal Services….act as if the company you work for belongs to you.

2) See yourself aas President of your own financial life.

3) Increase your value and earning ability from year to year.

4) Develop Critical Skills

Leadership is the willingness to accept responsibilities for your results. And always remember, if it,s to be….it's up to me.

Sometimes I feel like I am on the fast track of the freeway then I derail to the farm roads. After listening to Brian Tray’s Freeway of Life video I now know why I get knocked off the freeway to the farm roads. It’s all the distractions I constantly run into.

Some 25 years ago I was on the freeway heading to the PGA tour, when a gentleman introduced himself and forced his teaching philosophies upon myself and my golf game. He took me in a different direction now I was in unfamiliar territory, by that I mean he changed my mental approach as well as my physical approach including my golf swing.
He knocked me off the freeway to the farm roads, instead of progressing I digressed.
This went on for several years until I separated myself from him. Within a year of our separation I felt I was back on the freeway of Life achieving what I set out to do in the first place playing on the PGA tour.

The following year I ran into another road block this time in the form of a caddie. Once again I was knocked off the freeway to the farm roads, this time the ride was a little longer than the last one. I did experience some successes but the failures out weighed the successes making it tougher for me to achieve my goal of playing on the PGA tour.

What Brian Tracy has taught me is that there are so many distractions in life, some positive some negative. It’s our responsibility to separate the positive from the negative so that we don’t loose track of our goal.

I now feel that I am back on the Freeway of Life- I am excited at the possibility of qualifying for the champion’s tour. Playing on the PGA has been a life long dream of mine since I was a young boy.
I am hoping to have a very successful career on the champion’s tour which begins for me September 2009.

Remember when on the freeway to success separate yourself from all the negative and associate yourself with all the positive. The FREEWAY has no speed bumps and no limitations to your success. I am so grateful for what Brian Tracy has taught me in my latter years. I am looking forward to my future not only in golf but in life in general.

I am responsible for everything that has happened to me, and everything

This is such an impacting statement for me. When I heard this from Brian
Tracy it made me realize more than ever that I am responsible for my own failure, unhappiness, success, and happiness. I want to make more money and have more free time in my life. In my past job selling new homes, that was limited due to the shift in the market. I was responsible for making a change so those things could happen. It was not just going to fall into my lap!

Here are a few things that I learned from this video that you can do
immediately to make a significant change in your life NOW!

- No more criticizing. That gives your power away.

- No complaining. Complaining is when you position yourself to be a victim.

- No blaming. Modern psychology has found that blaming is the root of unhappiness.

Powerful emotions make you powerful and negative emotions make you weak.Most people fail by default. They don’t fail by something they did. They have failed because of something they did not do.

These two statements are important to me in assisting me to charge forward in life. When I was selling new homes, I would not just allow people to go through the model homes without being there to answer all their questions. I had pride in my profession and not a day would go by that I would not ask, “If I were the owner of this company would I approve of my actions?” This is part of having a great work ethic. It did play a big part in my success as well. Seeing myself as the president of my own life does make me accountable to me! It makes me want to excel and help all those that I am working with.
