Bill Bartmann - Learn the secrets of building wealth
Bill Bartmann - Learn the secrets of building wealth

Learn the secrets of building wealth from the 25th-wealthiest person in America.

Bartmann, 58, made (and lost) his fortune in the debt collection business, and both his rise and fall brought him to national attention, if fleetingly. He was well-known in the financial world and in the business schools that studied his then-pioneering approaches to raising money; in Tulsa, where he was among the biggest employers; and in certain Las Vegas casinos, where he was a regular at the blackjack tables. But few outside those circles would have followed his tumultuous career.

“Why am I an authority? Because I've lived it. I've seen both sides of self-esteem. I went from poverty and welfare to being the 25th-wealthiest person in America. I went from being a high-school dropout to becoming a lawyer. I went from working at a traveling carnival to being named National Entrepreneur of the Year. I went from being a million dollars in debt to a billion dollars to the good. I learned how to change. I went through a significant, some say remarkable, transformation.”

“Negotiating for Women”

Did you know that 40% of all privately held US firms are owned or controled by women?  That means 10.4 million firms!  Everyday 420 new women owned businesses are formed.

In this video, Terri Murphy shares 5 of the biggest negotiating mistakes that women make.
1) Fail to invest in a concerted personal development effort. - Take the time and the investment to learn.
2) Fear of Confrontation - In many cases women will settle for a bad deal instead of having to renegotiate for a different outcome.  Learn more about the negotiation process.  Then focus on the means not just the end in the negotiating which will help you to negotiate from power instead of weakness.
3) Women are less likely to ask for what they want - As women we need to learn to ask for what we want.  Although it may require more negotiating, it will increase the likelihood of getting more of what we want.
4) Generally women make ineffective concessions - It is common for women to try to plase other in the negotiation process.
5) Lack of preparation - The biggest impact on negotiating is what you do before or after the meeting.  Preparation helps you understand the needs and wants.  You are more likely to reach a collaborative agreement when you are accutely aware of the differences between negotiable and non-negotiable issues of the agreement.
Practice when it doesn't matter or count to make you comfortable with negotiating.

Darby Checketts “Leverage”
Darby Checketts

In this video Darby Checketts gives 5 Leverage Keys

1) Purpose - He talks about companies that have placed service above self interest such as Disney.  Identify words, concepts, key contributions to serve in your business to make that same kind of difference.
2) Perspective - There are 2 types Owner and Victim
Owner perspective will take responsibility of whatever happens in life.  Victim perspective perceives themselves to be subject to circumstances.  They complain and whine about things.
Owner perspective will make a decision that as long as they are here this must be the best place to work.  They embrace the truth and not go into denial mode.  For example, they have the mindset of with our current state of our economy this is a time of not business as usual, this is a time of business as UNusual and change is needed.  The victim mindset views commitment as a feeling.  So they will often think back on the “good old days” and how things used to be so much better instead of looking at the current situation and how they can make it better.
3) Principle - Doing the right thing. Wherever you are be there!
4) Partners - Nothing is impossible with the right partnerships!
5) Customer Focus - Cusomers are what drives us.  Our goal is to lift their world!

“Character”

Hyrum Smith - “Character”

Character is the ability to carry out a worthy decision after the
emotion of making that decision has past.

Do what you say you are going to do.

Two-thirds of the commitments that are made in corporate America
either don't happen on time or they don't happen, ever.

Hyrum says that if you develop a reputation of doing what you say you
are going to do, you can write your own ticket in the corporate
world.  Why?  Because people can count on you.

In this short video it was a great reminder to me how valuable doing
what you say you are going to do is.  You cannot keep telling your
child that you are going to take them to a movie and then not do it.
You cannot keep telling a friend that you will meet them for lunch and
then keep rescheduling.  In business, it is important to keep
appointments, make phone calls, and do the things that you say you are
going to do.  When you work from home on a full time basis is can be
easy to become relaxed and put something off because you can, just
make sure that it does not make you lose opportunities or make you
look unreliable.  This is a very simple thing to do that can make you
stand out from others.

“5 Tips For Women That Want To Get Hired”

In this dynamic video, Terri shares a wealth of information to help
you land that job!  This is a must see for all women who are planning
on going through the interview process.

1) Be prepared
Most interviewers are looking for a reason not to hire you.  Offer
skills and benefit statements.  Each statement should consist of 2
parts, a description of what you can do and a benefit that you are
able to deliver.  Terri gives great examples of these.
2) Give specifics
Instead of general answers give specific examples of times when you
used a skill.  Again, Terri gives great examples of how to do this.
3) Present you own brand
Make sure you look good for the interview.  Dress appropriately, don't
wear a heavy perfume, don't show too much skin.
4) Emphasize skills over personality
Don't focus only on who you are but what you can get done.
5) Develop a strategy for those killer questions
The biggest fear in an interview is being asked a question you can't
answer or don't really want to answer.  The best thing to do is to be
prepared.  If you can give a dynamic answer you can earn extra
points.  Terri talks abut questions that are subject to legal scrutiny
and are unethical when it pertains to women.
6) Get an advocate - this one is a bonus tip!
People who's reputation, creditability, and influence can sway the
decision in your favor.

Watch this video, listen and learn what Terri is sharing, and good
luck on that interview!
